Hello everyone,
A little about me: My name’s Alan, I’m 44 years old, British and live in the UK. I’ve had an active interest in computers since 1992 and have mostly used Microsoft Windows operating systems ranging from Windows 3.11 up to Windows 7 RC. More recently, I’ve tried several GNU/Linux distributions and have felt more ‘at home’ using Ubuntu.
I’ve been using Ubuntu for approximately 8 months now and view the operating system as a viable alternative to Microsoft Windows. I’m not here to say that Ubuntu is the best operating system out, in my opinion there is no such thing as a perfect operating system, every one has their advantages and disadvantages. One thing that I will say though is that I’ve found Ubuntu to be the most stable and reliable operating system I’ve used so far.
To help complete newcomers to Ubuntu I’ve provided a series of tutorial video clips which cover everyday tasks and some system tweaks. I’ve done this as payback to the Linux community who have helped me in the past. The links to my videos are at the bottom of this page.
I personally dislike using the terminal/command line (as I’m so used to Microsoft Windows) but at this moment in time, for some tasks and tweaks you have no choice but to use it. Due to the fact that I do not want to learn terminal commands my tutorial videos focus on a more Graphical User Interface (GUI) approach like you have with Microsoft Windows. I’ve been criticized a few times for not using the command line more but my attitude is why make something more complex when it doesn’t have to be?
